Both events are free of charge.

Sponsored by ILR.

  • Author Mark Oppenheimer will discuss the impact of the Tree of Life synagogue shooting on the Squirrel Hill Neighborhood of Pittsburgh, based on 250 interviews he conducted in 18 months after the attack. He will show photographs from his book about the killing and its aftermath.

  • The Other Side of the Prospect is an immersive portrait of a seminal community in our own city of New Haven, now beset by division and gun violence. Tracing the lives of three people whose lives meet in tragedy, the book describes optimistic families coming north from South Carolina as part of the Great Migration, with the promise of opportunity and upward mobility, and facing the harrowing costs of deindustrialization and neglect.
