Harvesting Gratitude: The Jewish Perspective on Thanksgiving

Tuesday, December 10, 2024 | 11:30 am - 1:00 pm

West Rock Room, JCC of Greater New Haven, 360 Amity Road, Woodbridge, CT

Do you know that our secular holiday of Thanksgiving has many, deep roots in Judaism? The evolution of Thanksgiving is much more than a festive meal shared by Pilgrims and Native Americans. What started as a question of if and how Orthodox Jews observe secular holidays, especially Thanksgiving, led to an eye-opening discussion on the Jewish influence over the first Thanksgivings.

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, consider bringing non-perishable food items to be donated to the JFS Food Pantry.

Bring your lunch and questions to learn about this Jewish influence in a discussion led by the very knowledgeable, warm, and patient Chanie Wilhelm.
